Catherine the Great
Part I
What I learned from this documentary is that Catherine was very keen and sneeky. She was only using her "husband" to get the thrown and was very sneeky about the things she did, even if they were not allowed. She was a very intelligent and knew what she wanted. Everything was pretty self explanatory, but a few questions I have are; what ever happened to Catherine's children in the future? Did she actually marry potemkin?
Part II
a. She was very devoted to her country and wanted everyone to be equal and have fair rights. She wanted to be liked by her people and seemed like a pretty nice lady.
b. She believed that in order for Russia to be united, there needed to be only one ruler that would recieve all of the power.
c. Even though she believed in having one ruler with all of the power, she still did not want to take away the rights of her people. She believed in having a dictator which respected the people of Russia's rights.
d. What Catherine means by " is the punishment of death really useful and necessary in a community for the preservation of peace and good order" is basically what it says. She questions why in a peaceful community should people be punished. If they are promoting peace and good order, having death penalties does not make a peaceful community more peaceful.
e.She believed that all laws that were made should be addressed by alll citizens and not just certain groups. She didn't think that punishing those who commited crimes would solve the problem, and that praising those who were honest would be good.
